Description
THIS… is a 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon Carat, finished in Orly Blue Metallic with a grey interior.
This Vanagon features the desirable 4-speed manual transmission.
The attached Carfax history report contains multiple reporting gaps, though it shows no accidents or mileage discrepancies during the given time period. It also shows that it’s been registered in Washington and California since new.
A partial list of notable factory equipment includes power steering, a sliding side door, and more as detailed below.
Modifications to this Vanagon are extensive, and the full list is detailed below. Highlights include a Subaru “EJ25” 2.5-liter flat-4 engine swap, a rebuilt transmission with a taller 4th gear, a GoWesty 2-inch lift kit and Bigger Brake system, 16-inch GoWesty alloy wheels with General Grabber AT2 tires, a Volkswagen Vanagon pop-top camper roof, a 52-inch curved front light bar, black leather folding front seats with passenger swivel, a queen-size Z-bed rear bench seat, an undercarriage-mounted propane tank, a Westfalia cabinet with 2-burner stove and sink, a 100 amp-hour house battery, and a 7-gallon water tank.
Volkswagen released the Vanagon for the 1980 model year to replace the Transporter, which traced its roots to the original Bus launched in 1950. It kept its predecessor’s rear-mounted engine, but it was longer, wider, and characterized by a boxier design. 1983 brought a water-cooled engine, and production for the American market ended in 1991, though Volkswagen continued selling the model in South Africa until 2002.
Power comes from an “EJ25” 2.5-liter flat-4, rated at 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission.
