The Avalanche was launched for the 2002 model year and filled the gap between GM trucks and SUVs. Built on the same GMT800 platform as the Suburban and Yukon XL, the Avalanche’s plastic body cladding and short bed created a distinctive look. The Avalanche also featured the “midgate” cargo configuration, which allowed the rear seats to be folded and the passenger compartment fully opened to the bed, creating increased cargo capacity and an open-air experience. The Avalanche was produced for only two generations, and production ended after the 2013 model year.
Power comes from a 5.3-liter V8 engine, rated at 285 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear or all four wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
